Sugar alcohols work the same as all carbs including sugar… 4 calories per gram. What makes them different is, they have a much lower glycemic index like the fructose in fruits… they absorb more slowly than sucrose/glucose.

are you talking about ingesting sugar alcohol? if so it can have the same effect as sugar with only a slight variance but it will stay within the same range as table sugar when its in your blood.
