How accurate are sonograms for checking on the status of blood clots in the leg?

I developed a blood clot in my right calf area as a result of foot surgery several months ago and I’m going Oct. 1 for a sonogram to see if the blood clot is still there, better, worse, etc.
But how accurate are sonograms when they check on blood clots?
Can they compare the old one and see any changes or is it an all or nothing kind of test?
Or…..other?

Thanks for your time!

Venous doppler ultrasound is very efficient. Yes, they can compare the 2 ultrasounds. You seem to be in good hands.

i would think they can do the test and show up the clot and how big it is.seems like they could give you a anti clotting med if its not too bad, dont be afraid to ask ur doctor any questions, there are no dumb ones when it comes to blood clots.
